Today’s T&T Express newspaper notes – One of the most distinctly heartening and dramatically pleasing spectacles of Carnival 2009 was the noticeable presence of uniformed police men and women who came out in their numbers to protect and to serve us. Their visibility throughout the country over the entire carnival weekend apparently helped to reduced criminal activity during Trini Carnival 2009 … see the complete feature here.

Fay Ann Lyons Takes Soca Monarch Titles

It was the wee hours of this morning at the Hasley Crawford Stadium where Fay Ann Lyons walked away with the three main soca monarch titles. She took the Groovy Soca, Power Soca and Peoples Choice titles at the International Soca Monarch Competiton. Just in case you didn’t know, she also created history by becoming the first woman to take the Soca Monarch title.

The mother-to-be reportedly sent the thousands at the Hasley Crawford Stadium into a frenzy when she called on her soon to be born baby to SING.

Global Recession Affecting Carnival Costume Sales?

According to Culture Minister, Marlene McDonald, the sale of costumes for the 2009 Carnival season has been slow. She was speaking on Tuesday during a post-Cabinet news briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister in St Clair.

Recent reports have also indicated that hotel bookings across T&T for the 2009 Carnival season have been slow, and the Tourism Minister has been pleading with hoteliers to drop their rates in order to entice revelers who may still be in two minds about coming to Trinidad for this year’s Carnival.

Notably also, the usual influx from Caribbean neighbors such as Jamaica is expected to be lower than normal. In Jamaica, where various financial and economic issues have affected the country over the past year, quite a few carnival regulars are reportedly not making the trip this time around.

Despite all … we will still play Mas, and get real real mad. So who not here you’ll be missing out, big time!
